yes, i ate a banana split!
then we saw a copperhead snake - one of the two most dangerous snakes on the trail. it went at me when i got to close, unnoticing, then stayed in its coiled up pose here for a while. we got pass with no probs though!

susnet on the ridge, yet we were far from any campsite. had to just throw up the tent.
there's been quite a few gravestones along the way.

Another unexpected change, due to prescribed burning there was a detour from the trail
We walked for a few miles on this road viewing the controlled burns
Then we were back on the trail, catching a glimpse of the sun admist the smoke
First view of Erwin, TN and the Nolichucky River, also where the rain began to pour!
We ran down the mountain and made it safely to Uncle Johnny's Hostel.
P.S. sorry if we haven't responded to people who have emailed us, its been hard to put up the blog and email with the time we have in town. we will try and get back to everyone when we have a bit more time!

i found your blog! yaa!!! anyhow, it looks like so much fun. some day sometime i'm gonna have to go on an adventure like this. someone asked me... what do you do about the bugs? some hiking gear has bug repelent worked into the fabrics... is that the kind you have?
it was brought to my attention that this is NOT kathryn's blog like i previously thought. i found the link on her facebook page and just assumed. chris informed me i was wrong. ANYHOW... still... hope you're having a blast!
Hey, I'm a friend of Lena's. I used to work for an environmental ed facility up in North Adams, MA, right near Williamstown. I'll be stoked to read about your trek through the Greylock, Killington area. I've done a lot of hiking around that area, both as a camper and instructor. I'm not sure if it's still there, but I helped do some trail work on the Greylock section; a little walking bridge over a stream back in 95'-96' I believe. BTW, your blog is awesome. Suggestion: more funny and scary stories about the trip, I know they exist. Good luck and may you keep blister free!!!

Yo! I didn't change my plans. I am in Palmer but NOT with Stew. He works at another farm, I haven't seen him yet. Bob and I are still going to Ireland in Sept. I am at at CSA and part-time at another farm that raises Musk Ox. They are cool animals. You guys look like you are having great weather and such a good time. We just finished our blog from AK but we'll do another in Ireland! Miss you! Much love!
